Highest Recommendation Possible,
This is a fantastic video.
It begins with Solti comparing Mussorgsky’s original piano version to Ravel’s orchestral version that is played in the second half of the video. Solti is a little difficult to understand at times, but it is interesting to see how he conducts rehersals.
The picture and sound quality are exceptionally good. It is in a wide screen format such that when the camera is in its furthest position from the stage, the field of view encompasses the whole orchestra. The picture is unusually clear. The sound quality approaches that of a CD.
The performance is the best part. This is absolutely the best version of Pictures that I have ever heard. It is even better that Fritz Reiner’s version with the same orchestra. The legendary Chicago brass section plays even better than usual.
Treat yourself and your friends to one of the best peices of classical music played by the worlds greatest orchestra.
